Hairy Bar Snack Review:
The design of this bag is nice and simple and obviously posh, just like the sea salt version, but red. Red equals hot (like on a tap). Take a look at our article on the rise of luxury pork scratchings where we discuss these Awfully Posh Snacks and how they were one of the first of the new wave of scratchings for the modern age.
This bag has the same small hole at the top that we hate. As you open the bag, It splits along the hole and the bag doesn’t open in a nice and clean fashion. Flipping annoying.
I always think that ALL of the pieces produced by a single company are all from the same batch, no matter which bag, version or variety. But these pieces are much bigger than the plain version, so what’s that all about? Maybe the Chilli pieces are from a ‘bigger bits’ batch. Who knows?
The general gist of these scratchings can be found in the regular Anglesey Sea Salt Version here.
They are light and crispy crackling definitely not scratchings. Oddly, there is no chilli or garlic flavour in/on the first few pieces I eat. But as with the sea salt version, the flavour builds, slowly, very slowly.
Again, there’s quite a lot of meat and fat, and the skin is very thin.
The pieces are darker in colour than the sea salt version. This could because of the flavour or maybe this batch has been cooked a bit more than the sea salt version. The chilli flavour is not hot at all, so if that’s the type of chilli flavour you like, then these are for you. If you’d prefer a kick in the face super hot painful chilli flavour then have a look at our Dr Burnorium reviews!
They are very dusty. A fair amount of dust at the bottom but no extra flavour. The garlic is so very very subtle which is probably good if you have anyone else in your life that you need to consider the feelings of. The chilli heat builds as time goes by, even in the end, it is still not hot.
These are a nice and subtle crackling. Something to think about whilst eating. They are light and crunchy with an interesting chilli and garlic flavour. Nice, but I do like a stronger flavour, something bolder.
