The Wheatsheaf, Loughton, Essex – Pub Review
Scratching brand on sale: Big D – Pork Scratchings
Scratching location: On the far left wall behind the long single bar. There are a few other card-based snacks there too, so you might have to ask if they have been covered.
Pub review: NOTE – This pub has been renovated and is no longer as described below.
One of the nicer pubs in Loughton, Essex. At the far end of a long line of pubs and as such lends itself to being the first pub on a crawl.
The Usual selection of beers and spirits. Also serves food, which can be eaten inside, or in the garden, which is over the road. The road is not a busy one, so unlike some other pubs we have reviewed, you won’t be taking your life in your hands if you decide to go over there. Always runs out of beer on bank holidays.
Quiz and fruit machines have ruined many a night, but that’s the fault of my friends and not the pub. The dartboard is in a good position, no chance of people getting in the way.
TVs at each end of the bar. permanent plasmas, and a drop-down screen for bigger occasions. A good pub to watch your team.
Irregular appearances by a DJ or band make a nice change to the status quo, but can be a little loud. Note to performers: 2 speakers as big as ‘ice cream vans’ turned right up so the people farthest away can hear, will blow the eardrums of everyone nearer. Try buying a few smaller speakers and putting them around the pub. It’s just a thought.
