Scratch My Pork Salted Pork Crackling Review
This bag of salted pork crackling is from ‘Scratch My Pork’ who are based in Ireland. On the bag, it says ‘pork crackling with an Irish twist’.
MSG Free, Gluten Free, Dairy Free, High in protein is written across the top of the bag, obviously ‘we’ know all about this, but sometimes it’s a good idea to make these things obvious. I can see a pork crackling newbie looking at these and wondering what’s it all about, so the info on the top is a good idea for them.
Anyway, back to the salted crackling.
We open the bag and the smell is really dry, not oily like some traditional scratchings, but dry. Now, I know you may ask, how can something smell dry, but trust me, it can, and these do. It’s not a bad thing, it’s just what we smelled.
Inside is a really good range of sizes and shapes (If they are all the same, it’s boring). There’s one really really big one which always puts a smile on the face of the lucky recipient! There are also lots of little bits, the little bits usually fall to the bottom and hoover up all the flavour.
They are not that salty, so if you were going on a mission and wanting to eat 3 or 4 bags, I still think you’d be OK. You would need a drink because you always need a drink, but these won’t make you super thirsty. For a bag of this size, and if you are only going to have one bag, they could do with a little more salt for our tastes.
There’s no added MSG, but there is 5% plain seasoning (it says on the back) for added flavour. This is not just salt, it includes yeast extract, which gives pork scratchings a more meaty flavour, a little bit of umami.
The little bits at the bottom have not collected up any extra flavour (salt) so this would seem to me that the transit process was fairy gentle, meaning that the flavour has stayed on the scratchings rather than falling off as the bag gets thrown around.
These are very nice, but I slightly prefer the varieties with flavour in this instance.
For those of you on the keto diet, then there is 5.1g of carbs per 100g.
There are 2 other flavours Smokey & Salt ‘n’ Vinegar, you can read those reviews here:
